Ford Washburn, a junior at City High in Iowa City, placed second in the boys 3,200 meters in a personal-best 8:59.60 at the 112th Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Washburn elevated to the No. 6 all-time Iowa prep outdoor competitor, and was part of the only race in meet history with multiple sub-9 performances. It also marked only the second time a pair of Iowa high school competitors both broke the 9-minute barrier in the same race, including the 2014 Class 3A state championships.
